Mia Slayton

Mia Slayton is the Associate Dean of Visual and Performing Arts and an Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at Earlham College. She holds an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa and a B.A. from Wheaton College. Her expertise lies in costume design and makeup artistry, emphasizing collaboration and the nonverbal elements of theatrical productions. She is deeply involved in the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, located at 801 National Road, Richmond, Indiana.

Her research explores how costume design and visual storytelling shape theatrical narratives, with a focus on both classical plays like Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard and contemporary works such as Urinetown: The Musical. She values Earlham’s community-driven approach to artistic exploration and education.

Mia’s creative interests extend beyond academia to include drawing, sewing, knitting, and other hands-on crafts. She advocates for accessible, inclusive environments for artistic creation and learning at all stages of life.
