Mia Palencia is a Lecturer in Songwriting at the Conservatorium of Music, University of Tasmania. She coordinates the Songwriting programme and specializes in songwriting pedagogy, creative process analysis, and the preservation of traditional music. Her academic journey includes a Bachelor of Music (Hons) and ongoing PhD research at the University of Tasmania.

Her research explores mechanisms of songwriting creativity and curriculum design. She has composed for musical theatre, film, and television, including Malaysia’s longest-running musical MUD: Our Story of KL (2014) and the award-winning Ola Bola The Musical (2017). Recent projects include the Pengertian Suite (2018) and contributions to the Living Room Musicals community initiative.
Notable awards include the University Medal and 8 Boh Cameronian Arts Awards. She actively engages in community projects like the Living Room Musicals toolkit development with Dr. Asher Warren.
