Mhairi Alexander is a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland's School of Health and Life Sciences. She previously held a Research Associate position at Stellenbosch University (2016–2018). Her research focuses on multidisciplinary aquatic ecology, integrating lab experiments and field surveys to address both applied and theoretical questions. Key interests include invasive species impacts, predator-prey dynamics under environmental changes, and multiple stressor effects on biotic interactions.
Her current projects explore shrimp feed attractiveness in aquaculture, coral reef fish community restoration, and anthropogenic noise impacts. Collaborations include Mars WALTHAM, Skretting, and universities like Exeter and Witwatersrand. She actively participates in conferences and public engagement, such as the UWS Super Science Festival and international aquatic invasive species conferences.
Research interests span functional responses, marine invertebrate behavior, and lab animal husbandry. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life below water and sustainable consumption.
