Mette Elmose Andersen

Mette Elmose Andersen is an Associate Professor and Head of Unit at the Department of Psychology, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Faculty of Health Sciences. She is actively engaged in clinical psychology research with a focus on neurodivergence, particularly autism and ADHD, as well as trauma and mental health. She is affiliated with several research initiatives including CH:LD, SDU Climate Cluster VIP, and the SDU SCC Elite Center CUHRE.

Her research centers on neurodivergence, autism, ADHD, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), family therapy, and parental mental health. She investigates trauma in autistic individuals, psychological assessment tools, and the psychosocial challenges faced by families of autistic children. Her work often combines clinical insight with educational and community-based approaches.

The recent publications reflect a strong trend in trauma assessment in neurodivergent populations, parental stress, and interdisciplinary environmental psychology. Topics include PTSD in autism, mental health of caregivers, network analysis of trauma symptoms, and ecoliteracy through regenerative practices. Her research spans clinical, educational, and societal domains, demonstrating a commitment to both scientific rigor and public impact.

She has been involved in numerous research projects such as the validation of the Odense Child Trauma Screening (OCTS) tool, the 'Autism and Trauma' literature review, and interdisciplinary initiatives like 'Playing with Disaster' and 'Elite Centre CUHRE'. She frequently participates in conferences, workshops, and public lectures, contributing to both academic and public discourse.

Dr. Andersen supervises students and collaborates with national and international researchers. She has contributed to 55 research outputs and 38 press/media appearances, highlighting her active role in knowledge dissemination. She is also involved in teaching, including the course 'The Professional Conversation'.

She leads and participates in multiple research teams and centers, including the Elite Centre CUHRE and the SDU Climate Cluster, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration between psychology, education, and environmental sustainability.
