Imane Messaoudi-Mattei is a Research Fellow at the University of Geneva's Institute for Environmental Sciences. She holds a dual PhD from Paris Nanterre University and the University of Fribourg, specializing in geography and social sciences. Her primary affiliation is with the Geneva Water Hub (GWH), where she focuses on critical discourse analysis in transboundary water management and coordinates their annual summer school on water governance.
Her research integrates critical agrarian studies and political ecology to examine global water and land resource governance, with a focus on semi-arid regions. Key themes include irrigation practices, rural sustainability, and policy analysis in Morocco and the MENA region. She has contributed to international projects on groundwater governance and food security.
Publications highlight her work on groundwater use sustainability, agricultural taxation in Morocco, and evolving paradigms in rural development. Her expertise bridges environmental policy with socio-economic analysis, addressing tensions between resource management and socio-political dynamics.
