Meryem Saygili is an Assistant Professor of Economics at The University of Texas at Tyler, located in CAS 140. She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Economics from The University of Texas at Austin (2011 and 2007 respectively), and a B.A. in Economics from Bogaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey (2005). Her research focuses on environmental and health economics, examining topics such as the trade-environment nexus, healthcare policy impacts (e.g., Medicaid expansion), and pandemic response strategies.
Her teaching portfolio includes Principles of Economics, Money and Banking, Econometrics, and International Finance. Recent research highlights include analyzing the environmental impacts of trade policies, evaluating shelter-in-place orders during the 2020 pandemic in Texas, and studying the effects of health insurance expansions on hospital systems and birth outcomes. She has collaborated with scholars like Evangelina Dardati and Marco Castaneda on multiple projects.
