Dr Merrilyn Crichton is a sociologist at Charles Sturt University (CSU), specializing in rural social issues, mental health, and environmental sustainability. She holds a PhD from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and has taught at multiple institutions including QUT and the University of Queensland. Her research focuses on rural community development, social inequality, and the intersection of environmental governance with human well-being. She actively contributes to disability advocacy and campus environmental initiatives. Current teaching includes community analysis, sociology fundamentals, and social inequality modules.

Research Interests: Explores mental health service accessibility in rural regions, social exclusion dynamics, and the socio-environmental impacts of water resource policies. Recent work examines climate change's psychological effects and land connection. She advocates for user-driven healthcare models and has collaborated on projects addressing HIV/AIDS in Ugandan rural communities.
Professional Engagement: Former co-chair of the Rural Social Issues group at the Australian Sociological Association, board member of Wagga Wagga's Disability Advocacy Network, and member of CSU Green's environmental committee. Active in organizing conferences on climate resilience and social development.
