Merit E. Janow is Dean Emerita and Professor at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and Columbia Law School, having served as SIPA Dean from 2013 to 2021. With 27 years of professorship, she specializes in international trade policy, digital economy governance, and China's global economic integration.

Her research examines WTO dispute resolution frameworks, cross-border antitrust regulation, and technology policy impacts on trade. Government service includes landmark roles as the first female WTO Appellate Body Member (2003-2007), U.S. Justice Department antitrust advisor (1997-2000), and Deputy Assistant USTR for Japan/China (1989-1993), shaping modern international trade architecture.
