Dr. Merieke Stevens is a Professor at the Department of Technology and Operations Management at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she holds the chair of Supply Ecosystems. She has been with RSM since 2011 and also serves as a Visiting Academic Fellow at the Institute for Manufacturing, Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge. Additionally, she is the Department Editor for Technology Management at the Journal of Operations Management.
Dr. Stevens' research focuses on how supply ecosystems can be adjusted to improve economic, societal, and environmental outputs, with process-embedded people being central to her work. She has particular expertise in using trust and digital tools to enhance transparency and sustainability in supply chains. While she maintains her automotive industry focus from extensive on-site research in Japan, she has successfully applied this knowledge to diverse settings including medical teams, global ports, and energy infrastructure.
Her publication record shows a strategic evolution from automotive industry case studies to broader applications in healthcare and sustainability. She has published in top journals including Journal of Operations Management and Organization Studies, with notable contributions examining team learning in complex care settings and inter-organizational trust relationships.
Dr. Stevens has received several prestigious awards:

As an educator, Dr. Stevens teaches the core Operations Management course in RSM's full-time MBA program. She has held visiting positions at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; Faculty of Economics, University of Tokyo; and Management Research Center, École Polytechnique Paris. Beyond her academic work, she is actively involved in improving conditions for women in academia, particularly tenure track faculty who become mothers.
