Merel Kamp is a Lecturer in Theoretical Skills at the Master Industrial Design program of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK), a role she has held since 2017. She is also a freelance journalist and maker with expertise in philosophy, design, and craftsmanship. Her work appears in Dutch media such as Trouw, NRC, and De Volkskrant, focusing on philosophy, technology, ecology, and ethical challenges. Alongside her academic role, she co-initiated the Design Journey podcast series with Master's coordinator Zara Roelse, exploring narratives in industrial design.
Her research interests bridge philosophical inquiry with practical creation, emphasizing tangible craftsmanship as a counterpoint to digital abstraction. She explores themes such as human-environment relationships, ethical technology use, and the existential dimensions of dependency and agency. Her journalistic contributions critically examine societal issues through a philosophical lens, blending academic rigor with accessible commentary.
