Meredith I. Honig

Meredith I. Honig is a Professor at the University of Washington's College of Education and Director of the District Leadership Design Lab (DL2). Her work focuses on transforming school district central offices to advance educational equity for underserved populations, including Black, Indigenous, Latinx students, and those from low-income backgrounds. She also holds an Adjunct Professor appointment in Public Affairs.

Research interests include educational policy implementation, equity leadership, and central office transformation. Her work emphasizes systemic barriers to equity and strategies for district leadership capacity-building through partnerships, data-driven decision-making, and organizational learning.

Notable awards include the 2016 Exemplary Educational Leadership Program award from the University Council for Educational Administration. Her publications span journals like Educational Researcher and American Educational Research Journal, funded by institutions such as the Spencer Foundation and W.T. Grant Foundation.

She advises Ed.D., Ph.D., and M.Ed. students on topics including policy implementation, organizational behavior, and leadership for educational equity. Previously, she served as Assistant Professor and co-director of the Center for Educational Policy and Leadership at the University of Maryland, College Park, and worked in state/local youth-serving agencies.

Dr. Honig founded DL2 in 2014 to provide tools for district leaders to redesign central offices as engines of equity. Her teaching includes Organizational Theory and Educational Change and Education Policy Implementation.
