Meredith Barbieri

Meredith Barbieri serves as Primary Instructor for multiple sections of the SEA-PHAGES (Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science) program at the University of Pittsburgh, teaching undergraduate research courses across Fall 2023 through Fall 2025 terms with class sizes of 15-20 students per section.

Her expertise centers on phage genomics and bioinformatics, specializing in bacteriophage isolation and analysis using Gordonia rubripertincta and Gordonia terrae bacterial hosts. Through in silico (computational) and wet-lab approaches, she guides students in genomic annotation, evolutionary analysis, and phage discovery within this HHMI-funded undergraduate research initiative.

Dr. Barbieri consistently teaches 3-hour weekly sessions across diverse course formats, including both traditional laboratory sections and bioinformatics-focused genomics modules.
