Christina Grogan

Christina Grogan serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, where she acts as Primary Instructor for the HHMI-funded SEA-PHAGES program. Since Fall 2023, she has taught 18 course sections spanning Fall 2023 through Fall 2025, guiding students in phage discovery and genomic analysis using Gordonia bacterial hosts.

Her research focuses on Bioinformatics and Phage Genomics, with specialized expertise in Microbiology, Evolutionary Biology, and Bacterial Genetics. She trains undergraduates in both wet-lab techniques (using Gordonia terrae and Gordonia rubripertincta hosts) and computational genomic analysis through the program's structured curriculum.

Dr. Grogan instructs 16-20 students per section in weekly 3-hour sessions, maintaining consistent enrollment across terms. As an active SEA-PHAGES network participant, she contributes to this national initiative that provides authentic research experiences in bacteriophage genomics, with scheduled involvement in upcoming 2025-2026 workshops and symposia.
