Mercy Bashir

Mercy Bashir is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at Salem State University and a dual board-certified adult gerontology and psychiatric nurse practitioner with extensive clinical experience, including military service as a combat medic in the US Army during Operation Iraq Freedom and in the Air Force Reserves.

Research and Professional Interests: Her work focuses on population health, global mental health/medical outreach, wellness initiatives, chronic disease management strategies, and healthcare quality metrics. She actively integrates clinical practice with academic instruction to address real-world healthcare challenges.

Program Leadership and Teaching: Dr. Bashir coordinates the Graduate MSN Program and teaches specialized courses including Advanced Health Assessment, Adult Gerontology Primary Care practicums, Chronic Problems in Adult-Gerontology, Population Health and Policy, and MSN Field Experiences. Her curriculum design emphasizes clinical application in diverse healthcare settings.

Professional Engagement: She presented her DNP capstone research at the 2014 annual Northeast Regional Nurse Practitioner Conference, demonstrating her commitment to evidence-based practice. Her clinical background spans military and civilian healthcare environments, informing her holistic approach to nursing education.
