Mercedes Maroto-Valer

Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer (FRSE, FIChemE, FRSC, FRSA, FEI) is Deputy Principal (Global Sustainability) at Heriot-Watt University and Director of the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions (RCCS). She leads the UK Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre (IDRIC) and holds the Robert Buchan Chair in Sustainable Energy Engineering.

Her research focuses on CCUS technologies, low-carbon energy systems, and hydrogen integration. Recent work includes Darcy-scale solvers for CO2/water solubility and upscaling models for smart energy systems.
