Menesh Patel is a Professor of Law at the UC Davis School of Law since 2018. His research focuses on antitrust, securities regulation, and corporate law, with a particular emphasis on capital markets and law-and-economics analysis. He holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School, a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and undergraduate degrees in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Iowa.
Before joining UC Davis, Patel was a Post-Doctoral Research Scholar at Columbia Law School and Columbia Business School (2016–2018), and a law and economics fellow at Stanford Law School (2012–2013). He practiced corporate law at Sidley Austin (2008–2016) and Heller Ehrman LLP (2005–2008), specializing in complex litigation and corporate transactions.
His teaching includes courses on Business Associations, Securities Regulation, and Modern Topics in Business Law. Patel’s scholarship addresses critical issues like cryptocurrency fraud, common ownership effects on competition, and insider trading policy. He is slated to receive the 2025 Distinguished Teaching Award and has contributed to influential policy discussions through essays on merger guidelines and securities market regulation.
