Dr. Melita Vidaković is a Principal Research Fellow and Head of the Department of Molecular Biology at the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" (IBISS), affiliated with the University of Belgrade. She lectures in the Epigenetics module at the Faculty of Biology and leads research focused on epigenetic mechanisms controlling gene expression in health and disease, particularly diabetes and cancer. Her work employs advanced techniques like CRISPR/dCas9-based synthetic epigenetic tools.
- International collaborations with institutions in Italy, Germany, Spain, Japan, and beyond
- Member of European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), FEBS Science & Society Committee, and president of Serbian Society for Molecular Biology and Humboldt Club Serbia
- Research integrates nutrition, metabolism, and epigenetics to address cellular reprogramming in diabetes and cancer initiation
Her work has established epigenetics as a key research area at IBISS, emphasizing innovative therapeutic approaches targeting gene methylation. She contributes to institutional projects like STRIMHealth and COST Actions while maintaining leadership in domestic and international scientific networks.
