Dr. Melissa Zullo is a Professor of Epidemiology at Kent State University's College of Public Health since 2009. Her work focuses on cardiovascular disease management, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and quality improvement in healthcare systems. She holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Case Western Reserve University (2009), an MPH from Kent State/Northeastern Ohio University (2003), and an MA in Exercise Physiology (1998).
Her research emphasizes translational strategies to improve post-acute cardiac care, particularly for older adults and vulnerable populations. Notable contributions include studies on cardiac rehabilitation in skilled nursing facilities, metabolic syndrome interventions, and the impact of social determinants on cardiovascular outcomes.
Awarded the Beginning Investigator Award (2011) from the Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation for her metabolic syndrome work, Dr. Zullo has secured grants from AHRQ, SUMMA Health Systems, and the Initiative for Clinical and Translational Research. Her work spans community health worker programs in India, sedentary behavior interventions, and digital health tools for post-intensive care syndrome.
