Melissa Weege is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Radiologic Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse since 2024, overseeing Radiation Therapy, Radiologic Technology, and Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs. Previously, she served as Program Director for Radiation Therapy since 2007 and was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor in 2019. She holds a BS in Radiation Therapy (UWL, 2001), a Medical Dosimetry certificate (UWL, 2006), and an MS in Education (UW-Stout, 2009).
Her research focuses on enhancing healthcare education through professionalism, critical thinking, and innovative teaching methods like flipped classrooms and case-based learning. She emphasizes integrating clinical practice standards and service learning into curricula. Key contributions include co-authoring a textbook chapter on cancer overview and publishing on professionalism in radiation therapy education.
Weege actively participates in professional development, presenting at conferences such as the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). Notable recognition includes the 2024 Eagle Teaching Excellence Award. She also organizes continuing education events for Wisconsin Radiation Therapists and collaborates on initiatives like the UWL Faculty College to redesign student assignments.
