Melissa Vigil is a Teaching Professor in the Physics Department at Marquette University, where she has served since 1992. Her work focuses on physics education, metacognitive learning strategies, and science outreach. She previously taught at Lincoln Land Community College and Elmhurst College.

Her research explores how students learn physics, particularly the impact of metacognitive writing on performance. She collaborates on planetary magnetism studies with data from Van Allen's group at the University of Iowa.
Vigil contributes to pedagogical innovation by updating introductory physics laboratories and training teaching assistants. She also engages in outreach through:
