Dr. Melissa Skein is a Senior Lecturer in Human Movement at the School of Allied Health, Exercise and Sports Sciences, Charles Sturt University. She holds dual accreditation as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) and Exercise Scientist (AES) with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA), and serves as CSU Representative for the Western Region Academy of Sport Board.
- Primary research focus: Sleep's impact on health, wellbeing, and exercise performance in athletes and general populations
- Key research areas: Fatigue mechanisms, pacing strategies, thermoregulation, athlete monitoring, and sleep-exercise-appetite interactions
Her research output spans 15+ years, including 2024 studies on cardio-metabolic health in shift workers and 2023 publications on sleep restriction effects on cycling performance and exercise interventions for Parkinson's disease. Recent work explores applications of exercise to mitigate inflammation in mental health disorders and SARS-CoV-2 severity.
