Melissa Owens is a Senior Lecturer and Subject Lead for Nursing at the University of York, with responsibilities for Nursing and Nursing Associate Programmes. A Registered Nurse (Learning Disability) since 1992, she previously held roles including Director of Pre-registration Education and Associate Professor (Nursing).

Research Interests focus on interprofessional education (IPE), collaborative healthcare practices, and sociological aspects of nursing. Her work explores simulation pedagogy, pandemic-era remote learning, culturally competent care, and the use of art-based methods in healthcare education.
Publications highlight the effectiveness of IPE in nursing, pandemic impacts on clinical training, and innovative assessment tools. Funded projects include ERASMUS+ simulation initiatives, ASAHP research grants, and HEFCE/HEA digital learning evaluations.
