Melissa Mauskar, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Dermatology and Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in women’s health dermatology, focusing on vulvar health across life stages including puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. As the Founder and Director of the Vulvar Health Program, she leads a tertiary referral center for complex cases. Dr. Mauskar earned her M.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, completed dermatology residency at Georgetown University Hospital, and is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. She holds the title of Fellow of the International Society of the Study of Vulvovaginal Diseases (ISSVD).
Her research emphasizes vulvar dermatoses, health literacy, and patient education. Dr. Mauskar chairs the ISSVD Education Committee, serves as Secretary General of the North American ISSVD, and founded the Vulvar Dermatoses Research Consortium (VDRC). Her professional roles include board membership with the Women’s Dermatologic Society and past presidency of the Dallas Dermatological Society.
Key areas of clinical focus include vulvar dermatoses, lichen sclerosus management, and improving patient communication about genital health. Her work addresses disparities in diagnosis and care for skin of color patients and evaluates online health resources’ readability for vulvar conditions. Dr. Mauskar lectures globally on vulvar skin diseases and advocates for women’s dermatologic health through educational initiatives.
