معرفی
Dr. Melissa Lafrenière is a Professor and Head of the Department of Geography and Planning at Queen's University. Her research focuses on climate change impacts on hydrology, biogeochemical processes, and water quality in Arctic and alpine environments. She co-directs the Cape Bounty Arctic Watershed Observatory (CBAWO) on Melville Island, NU, and collaborates with Inuit communities to integrate traditional knowledge into environmental research.
Education:
- B.Sc. (Honours) in Geography, University of Western Ontario (1996)
- Additional undergraduate studies in Geology, University of Ottawa (1997)
- Ph.D. in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Alberta (2003)
Research Interests:
- Climate change effects on Arctic and alpine hydrological systems
- Biogeochemical cycles of carbon, nitrogen, and dissolved metals
- Impacts of permafrost thaw and anthropogenic activities on watershed dynamics
- Nitrogen deposition in alpine catchments
Advising and Partnerships:
- Supervises graduate students researching climate change and biogeochemistry in cold environments
- Collaborates with Inuit communities for knowledge exchange and data contextualization
Labs/Teams: Co-director of the Cape Bounty Arctic Watershed Observatory (CBAWO), a long-term Arctic research facility.
