Melissa Grey

Melissa Grey is a Part-time Assistant Professor at The New School's School of Media Studies, where she teaches Sound Studies (NMDS 5255) to students across disciplines. As a composer, producer, and educator, her creative practice integrates acoustic science, spatial sound techniques, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Research Focus: Grey specializes in the intersection of sound, architecture, and historical memory, particularly through Sound the Asylum (2023)—a large-scale project documenting the aural identity of 19th-century asylum interiors. Her work explores immersive audio environments, sound design for decaying historical spaces, and the perception of sonic landscapes.

Recent Creative Output: Highlights include the 2023 Always Becoming EP and interviews discussing her innovative approach to sound studies. Her practice with David Morneau has been praised for 'technical mastery,' 'hypnotic allure,' and 'inventive use of space.'
