Melissa Frost serves as Assistant Dean and Assistant Professor in the Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese at the University of Virginia. She holds a Ph.D. (2017) and M.A. (2012) in Spanish from UVA, and a B.A. in Spanish and International Studies from the University of Oregon (2010). Her research focuses on the history of hallucinogenic plant consumption in colonial Mexico, integrating pre-Columbian codices, colonial texts, and modern ethnographic studies to analyze ritual practices and syncretism in New Spain. She also examines U.S.-Mexico border policies' impacts on indigenous communities. Teaching since 2010, she specializes in translation, literature, and language instruction.
