Melissa Emily Graebner is a Robert C. Evans Professor and Associate Dean for Entrepreneurship at the Gies College of Business, University of Illinois. She also serves as Director of the Initiative for Qualitative Research in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (INQUIRE) and Area Chair of Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and International Business within the Department of Business Administration. Her research focuses on entrepreneurship, strategic management, and organizational performance.
Key research interests include entrepreneurship theories, strategic renewal, time compression in ventures, and sustained superior performance mechanisms. Graebner advocates for question-driven, phenomenon-based research methodologies. Recent work explores IPO performance dynamics and the evolution of business strategies in complex environments.
Recipient of the 2021 Fellow of the Strategic Management Society and 2022 William F. Glueck Best Paper Award, her contributions span 22 peer-reviewed publications. Graebner leads the INQUIRE initiative promoting qualitative research in innovation studies. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges theoretical frameworks with practical business challenges.
