Dr. Melissa Cox serves as Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Southwestern Christian University, a role she has held since 2014. She holds a BS in Recreation Management (2005) and MS in Exercise Science (2007) from the University of Central Oklahoma, followed by an Ed.D. in Administration and Leadership (2023) from Southern Nazarene University.
Her research focuses on behavior modification, ergogenic aids in sports performance, and the impact of wearable technology on fitness. She also specializes in areas like outdoor adventure, fitness assessment, and group exercise instruction. Dr. Cox teaches a range of courses, including legal aspects of sports, exercise programming for special populations, and church/community recreational leadership.
Her academic contributions include a doctoral dissertation on wearable technology and health behavior change, studies on caffeine's effects on athletes, and professional writing for fitness publications. She is affiliated with organizations such as the American Red Cross and National Academy of Sports Medicine.
