Melissa Bissonette is an Associate Professor who teaches courses in English literature, including surveys and seminars on Jane Austen, YA literature, and theater. She also contributes to the Legal Studies Program and the Public and Professional Writing certificate through her Legal Writing course.

Her research explores the intersection of 18th-century theatrical writing with popular and literary forms. She combines academic scholarship with creative writing, producing fiction centered on lesser-known historical figures in the legal and courtly systems of 16th- and 17th-century England.
Melissa Bissonette’s publications reflect a focus on interdisciplinary studies bridging literature, legal history, and cultural analysis. Her forthcoming article examines public theaters and financial markets in 18th-century London, while her 2019 work analyzes rape trial conventions in literary texts.
