Mrs. Melissa Baskin is an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Shorter University. She holds an M.A. in Communication from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (2003) and a B.A. in Mass Communication from Ouachita Baptist University (1999). Her academic career includes roles as an Adjunct Instructor at multiple institutions before joining Shorter University in 2013 as an Instructor of Communication Arts, later promoted to Assistant Professor in 2018.
Dr. Baskin teaches courses such as Public Relations Principles, Social Marketing, Intercultural Communication, and Digital Media Lab. She advises The Hawkeye magazine and serves on committees including General Education Assessment and Student Appeals. She is a member of the Georgia Communication Association.
Her teaching portfolio spans Public Relations Writing, Advertising Principles, and courses in interpersonal and intercultural communication. She has also supervised internships and taught foundational courses like Introduction to Communication.
