Melissa Andrews is an Associate Professor in Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences. She holds a PhD in Anatomy and Cell Biology from SUNY Upstate Medical University and has held academic roles at the University of Cambridge (Postdoc), University of St Andrews (Lecturer in Anatomy), and currently leads research in neuroregeneration. Her primary affiliations include the Neuroscience Institute for Life Sciences and the Centre for Human Development, Stem Cells and Regeneration.
- Education:
- BSc Bioengineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1996-2000)
- PhD Anatomy & Cell Biology, SUNY Upstate Medical University (2000-2006)
- Research Focus:
- Spinal cord injury repair using gene therapy and stem cell approaches
- Role of integrin receptors in axonal regeneration
- ECM modulation to enhance CNS plasticity
- Grants & Projects:
- Health Research Council of New Zealand: Novel axonal repair targets
- BBSRC: Integrin receptor localization studies
