Melinda Knight is a Professor and Director of the Center for Writing Excellence in the Department of English at Montclair State University, within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her work emphasizes fostering a culture of writing among students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community.
Her research interests include American Studies, with a focus on intersections of class, gender, identity, and race in American literature. She explores aestheticism, decadence, urbanization's impact on cultural products, and representations of the American West (1890s–WW II). Additionally, she leads grant-funded projects addressing community literacy.
As Director of the Center for Writing Excellence, she advocates for interdisciplinary writing practices and accessibility. Her office hours are consistent across semesters, reflecting her commitment to academic engagement.
