Melanie Syron

Melanie Syron is an ACHPER Board Member and a Lecturer in Indigenous Studies with extensive experience in Aboriginal education, cultural safety, and community engagement. As an Awabakal and Worimi woman, she has resided on Kabi Kabi country in Queensland for 20 years and draws on her upbringing in a remote community to foster belonging through sports coaching and consulting.

Her research focuses on Indigenous-led frameworks and culturally responsive practices in higher education and community collaboration. She founded Black Wattle Professional Services (2019) to support Aboriginal communities, emphasizing social development and cultural safety. Her work spans health, education, and Indigenous studies, reflecting her commitment to empowering Aboriginal peoples.

Melanie’s career combines academic lecturing in Indigenous Studies with active involvement in sports such as netball, jiu-jitsu, and boxing. Her expertise in community engagement and advocacy for Indigenous cultures underscores her multidisciplinary approach to education and social impact.
