Melanie Powell Rey, Ph.D., is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Special Education at Lamar University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Special Education (Mild/Moderate Disabilities) from Southern University and A&M College (2012), a Master of Education in Special Education (1999), and a Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology (1996). Her career highlights include establishing a study abroad program in China, contributing to sustainable teaching practices through Australian collaborations, and serving as a founding member of a local charter school's governing board. She also earned a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from the University of South Florida Muma College of Business.
Her teaching focuses on courses such as SPED 5302 (Tests, Measurement, and Evaluation), SPED 5303 (Educational Psychology), and SPED 5305 (Research in Special Education). She emphasizes discipline and organization in online learning, advocating for students to balance academic rigor with personal commitments.
