Dr Melanie King is a Senior Lecturer in Systems Engineering at Loughborough University, with a PhD in Computer Science. She holds certifications in Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF 9.0) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Previously, she served as Head of Loughborough’s Centre for Engineering and Design Education (CEDE) and Head of Digital Innovation, leading cross-disciplinary teams in educational technology and systems development. Her research focuses on Product Passports for the Circular Economy, EU Battery Regulations compliance, and systems engineering applications in military and urban systems. She has led projects like the Battery Passports Stakeholder Needs Analysis and the Product Passport System for Industry Symbiosis, contributing to national and EU policy debates.
Key research areas include regulatory compliance frameworks for battery and product passports, smart city technologies, and holistic systems approaches to sustainability. Her work bridges technical innovation with policy, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration. She has published extensively on systems engineering in defense, healthcare, and urban systems, and actively engages with industry stakeholders through surveys and roundtables.
