Melanie J. Newton is a Professor of History at the University of Toronto, with cross-appointments to the Centre for Caribbean Studies. Her research focuses on Caribbean and Atlantic World histories, particularly slavery, emancipation, Indigenous and African diaspora experiences, gender dynamics, and colonial legal systems. She has held significant administrative roles, including Director of the Caribbean Studies Program and Chair of the Faculty of Arts and Science Academic Appeals Board.
