Melanie Holm is a Professor and Director of CAL (Center for Academic Literacy) and Director of Swift Graduate Studies Group at Indiana University of Pennsylvania's College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs within the Language, Literature, and Writing Department. She holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Rutgers University and a dual BS in Mathematics and Literature from MIT.
Her research focuses on British and European Literature of the Early Modern Period and Long Eighteenth Century, with specialized expertise in satire, skepticism, women writers, intellectual history, digital pedagogy, and humanist learning theory. Current projects include a book-length study titled "Leaving Lucretia: Margaret Cavendish and the Singular Heroine" examining Margaret Cavendish's literary contributions.
Recent publications demonstrate strong engagement with digital humanities methodologies and contemporary adaptations of historical literature, particularly through edited collections like "Grimm Realities" (2022) analyzing television adaptations and "Mocking Bird Technologies" (2018) exploring global bird mimicry poetics. Her scholarly work bridges historical literary analysis with modern pedagogical applications.
As Director of CAL and Swift Graduate Studies, she oversees academic literacy initiatives and graduate programming while maintaining an active research agenda that connects 18th-century literary traditions with contemporary educational technologies.
