معرفی
Dr. Melanie Finch is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Geosciences at James Cook University (Australia), with prior positions at Monash University and the University of Tübingen (Germany). She holds a PhD from Monash University (2016) and an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship (2018). Her research centers on viscous shear zones' role in strain accommodation, fluid transport in subduction zones, and critical mineral formation via shear-related processes.
- Education:
- PhD in Structural Geology, Monash University, 2016
- BSc/MSc in Geology (implied from career path)
- Affiliations:
- President of Women in Earth and Environmental Sciences Australasia (WOMEESA)
- 2021-2022 STA ‘Superstar of STEM’
Her work explores fluid dynamics in subduction zones, metamorphic evolution of orogens, and crustal melting processes. Key projects include studying rare earth element exploration in Australia’s Mary Kathleen Syncline and fault pattern analysis in active plate boundaries. Publications span structural analysis, geochemical tracing, and planetary science, with a notable focus on shear zone mechanics and geochronology.
Publications (2018–2024) reflect interdisciplinary approaches combining fieldwork, microstructural analysis, and numerical modeling. Notable collaborations include work on Martian pyrite S-MIF signals and gender equity in geosciences.
Grants/Projects:
- Investigating Mineralized Shear Zones and Subsurface Granites for Rare Earth Element Exploration (2023–2024)
- Controls on Fault and Earthquake Patterns in Active Plate Boundaries (2022–2025)
