Dr. Melanie Erzinger is a Lecturer and Postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich's Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST), specializing in Food Biochemistry and Toxicology. She holds a PhD from ETH Zurich (2015) on the impact of bioactive food components on cancer drug metabolism, an MSc in Food Science (2010), and a BSc in Food Science (2008), both from ETH Zurich.
- Education:
- BSc in Food Science, ETH Zurich (2005–2008) – Thesis: Non-destructive fruit quality measurement using NIR spectroscopy
- MSc in Food Science, ETH Zurich (2009–2010) – Thesis: Food-Drug Interactions and Anticancer Therapy
- PhD in Food and Nutrition Toxicology, ETH Zurich (2011–2015) – Thesis: Impact of Bioactive Food Components on Cancer Drug Metabolism
Research Focus: Investigates how bioactive food components influence drug metabolism, particularly in anticancer therapies. Her work bridges food chemistry, toxicology, and clinical outcomes, with a focus on reductase induction and metabolite analysis of compounds like Illudin S and Acylfulvene. Additionally, she explores non-destructive food quality assessment techniques.
Labs & Affiliations: Active in the Laboratory of Food Biochemistry at ETH Zurich, contributing to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of food science and human health.
