Melanie D. Wilson is the Dean and Roy L. Steinheimer Jr. Professor of Law at Washington and Lee University School of Law. She began her deanship in July 2022 and serves as President-Elect of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) in 2023, with a leadership theme of "Courage in Action." Prior to W&L, she was Dean of the University of Tennessee College of Law (2015–2020) and held academic and administrative roles at the University of Kansas School of Law.

- B.A. in Journalism with minor in Business from University of Georgia
Wilson’s research focuses on criminal procedure, emphasizing constitutional protections under the Fourth and Sixth Amendments, prosecutorial roles, and legal pedagogy. Her scholarship has been published in leading journals such as Iowa Law Review and Hastings Law Journal, and she co-authored Criminal Procedure, Ninth Edition (2020). She advocates for pragmatic legal education that bridges theory with real-world justice outcomes.
As an administrator, she championed initiatives to reduce student debt, enhance faculty stipends, and expand career opportunities through curriculum modernization. Her leadership includes service on the AALS Executive Committee since 2020 and recognition as #14 in National Jurist’s 2024 "20 Most Influential People in Legal Education."
