Melanie Blood serves as Associate Provost for Assessment & Curriculum and Professor of English & Music at SUNY Geneseo. Since 2019, she has held leadership roles in academic affairs, accreditation, and curriculum development, including leading the Middle States Commission on Higher Education reaccreditation process as Accreditation Liaison Officer. Her academic roles span over 28 years at Geneseo, where she advanced to full professor in 2007 and received SUNY’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2011.

Research and Teaching: Her expertise centers on American theatre and drama, with teaching foci in dramatic literature, film, musical theatre, and Women and Gender Studies. She has directed numerous musicals and plays, blending scholarly and performance-based contributions to the arts. She previously served as director of Geneseo’s Women and Gender Studies program for over a decade and held administrative roles including Dean of the School of Arts and coordinator of fellowships and scholarships.
Contributions: Beyond Geneseo, she taught in the M.F.A. and Ph.D. programs at the University of Georgia, Athens. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary arts education and institutional assessment, shaping both curricular innovation and student success initiatives.
