Dr Melanie Benson Marshall serves as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of Sheffield's School of Information, Journalism and Communication, where she leads critical work on the VOICES project investigating pandemic-era science communication. Her research examines shifting discourse on openness among academics, publishers, policymakers, and the public through mixed-methods approaches.
Her educational journey includes:
- BA in Humanities from the University of Nottingham
- MA in Librarianship from the University of Sheffield
- PhD in Information Science from the University of Sheffield focusing on Polish migrant women's information behavior
Her research integrates:
- Migration information behavior dynamics
- Spatial analysis of academic libraries and learning environments
- Library architecture and design principles
- Visual/creative research methodologies
- Post-pandemic open science frameworks
As an educator, she delivers seven specialized modules including INF6005 (Management for Library Services), INF6031 (Public/School Libraries), and INF6513 (Leadership Strategy), while supervising postgraduate dissertations across Librarianship and Information Science programs.
