Laura Jane Williams is a part-time doctoral researcher at the School of Information, Journalism and Communication, University of Sheffield, and the subject librarian for art, design, and architecture at the University of Huddersfield. With a background in Theatre and Performance Studies (University of Warwick) and Librarianship (University of Sheffield), she has extensive experience in media librarianship at ITV and BBC, as well as academic library services.
- PhD Focus: Information behaviors of ultramarathon runners, integrating social media and sport studies
- Librarian Research: Information needs of art students, physical library collections, and reading list systems
Her work bridges academic librarianship and information behavior research, emphasizing the role of online communities and digital platforms. Publications explore topics like reference management practices, pandemic-era pedagogy, and embodied information practices in ultrarunning communities. Key methodologies include digital ethnography and qualitative analysis.
Supervised by Andrew Cox and Lee Pretlove, her projects often intersect with user engagement, social media, and sports informatics. She has contributed to journals such as The Journal of Academic Librarianship and Art Libraries Journal, alongside international conference proceedings.
