Melanie Behrens

Melanie Behrens is a researcher in Glaciology at the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI). Her work focuses on chemical ice core analysis and stable isotope studies, particularly in polar regions. She contributes to understanding climate dynamics through isotopic analysis of atmospheric water vapor and greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide in ice cores. Behrens' research spans Arctic and Antarctic environments, with key projects in the Lena River Delta (Siberia), Neumayer Station III (Antarctica), and the Atlantic sector. She has developed advanced analytical techniques for isotopic measurements in ice cores, enhancing climate reconstruction methodologies.

Her research interests include isotopic exchange mechanisms between snow and atmosphere, glacial-interglacial climate transitions, and the role of methane sources in past climate changes.
