Mekala Soosay

Mekala Soosay (also known as Meg) is a Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University, affiliated with the School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing. She is an experienced educator and academic developer in Data Science and Computer Science, delivering rigorous, student-centered modules and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.

Her teaching philosophy emphasizes critical thinking and real-world application in digital environments. She holds a PhD in Computing from Leeds Beckett University, reflecting her deep academic grounding in the field.

Her research focuses on the human and socio-technical aspects of Computer Science, particularly applying Constructive Grounded Theory to Visual Data Analysis. Her work bridges technical systems with user-centered design and pedagogical innovation.

She has played a leading role in curriculum development for MSc courses in web and mobile application development and has managed international academic partnerships, notably with The British College, Nepal, for delivering BSc and MSc programs in Computer Science and Information Technology.

Her contributions to educational innovation include developing integrated tools and processes for learning objects through JISC-funded projects such as REPLIKA, Streamline, and EuroPLOT, in collaboration with partners across England, Spain, Czech Republic, and Denmark.

She actively delivers staff development workshops and talks on learning object design, smart assessments, feedback mechanisms, and PGCHE sessions on effective blended and online learning design.
