Meisam Abdi is a Senior Lecturer in Design for Additive Manufacturing at De Montfort University, within the School of Engineering and Sustainable Development. He holds a PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Nottingham (2015) and has been at DMU since 2017, following postdoctoral work at the University of Nottingham's Centre for Additive Manufacturing (CfAM).
- Research Expertise: Focus on topology optimization, 3D printed lattice structures, design for selective laser melting (SLM), and numerical modelling via FEM/XFEM/meshfree methods.
- Teaching: Module leader for ENGD3120 Design for 3D Printing, ENGT5155 Digital Manufacturing, and ENGD1106 Mechanical Principles-Dynamics.
- Publications: 11 key articles spanning 2009-2021, emphasizing additive manufacturing, metamaterials, and structural optimization.
Research Focus: His work bridges computational design and advanced manufacturing, particularly for aerospace, biomedical, and automotive applications. Articles highlight additive manufacturing of metamaterials, biofilm-resistant devices, and fluid dynamics optimization.
Grants: Involved in Innovate UK-funded projects (e.g., ALMER with Rolls-Royce) and EPSRC grants (EP/N034163/1, EP/N034201/1, EP/N034813/1).
