Meinolf Geck is a Professor and Chair of Algebra at the University of Stuttgart's Institute for Discrete Structures and Symbolic Computing. He holds a Ph.D. from RWTH Aachen (1990) and a Habilitation from the same institution (1994). His career includes roles at Université Paris 7 (1995–1999), Université Lyon 1 (1999–2005), and the University of Aberdeen (2005–2012).
His research focuses on representation theory of finite groups of Lie type, algebraic groups, Hecke algebras, and computational algebra. Notable contributions include work on character tables, Green functions, and software tools like PyCox and ChevLie.jl. He has supervised over 10 PhD students and authored influential textbooks such as Characters of Finite Coxeter Groups and Iwahori-Hecke Algebras (2000) and Algebra: Groups, Rings, Fields (2014).
Awards include the Bennigsen-Foerder Prize (1991). Recent teaching includes courses on Lie algebras, algebraic groups, and linear algebra. Active in academic networks like the SFB-TRR 195 and editor for journals like Archiv der Mathematik.
