Peter Schneider is a Professor at the University of Münster, holding this position since 1994. He has held previous roles including Visiting Professor at the University of British Columbia (2012), Professor at the University of Köln (1985–1994), and Professor at the University of Heidelberg (1984–1985). His research focuses on Representation theory, Algebraic number theory, p-adic analysis, and Arithmetic geometry. Schneider has made significant contributions to p-adic Langlands program, modular representation theory, and the interplay between algebraic geometry and number theory.
Research Interests: Schneider’s work explores foundational aspects of p-adic analysis, including p-adic distributions, representations of p-adic groups, and the geometric structures like Bruhat-Tits buildings. His studies on arithmetic geometry bridge algebraic geometry with number theory, addressing topics such as Galois representations and modular forms.
Awards and Honors:
- Leibniz Prize (1992)
- Prix du Ministère de l'Education Nationale (1995)
- Clay Research Scholar (2005)
- Invited Section Lecturer at the International Congress of Mathematicians (2006)
His publications include seminal works on p-adic Fourier theory, Pro-p-Iwahori-Hecke algebras, and the p-adic Langlands functoriality. Schneider has authored influential books such as Non-archimedean Functional Analysis and p-adic Lie Groups.
