Meiling Zhu is a Researcher in the Insogna Lab at Yale School of Medicine’s Department of Internal Medicine. She specializes in bone biology and molecular endocrinology, focusing on osteoclast function, Wnt signaling in mesenchymal stem cells, and neuromuscular-skeletal interactions. Her work includes studies on Rac GTPase deletion in osteoclasts and Mitofusin 2’s role in skeletal integrity. Collaborators include Karl Insogna, Gang-Qing Yao, and Steven Tommasini. She has been at Yale since 2003, contributing to lab operations and trainee education. Before her U.S. career, she was a nursing school teacher in Szechuan Province, China.
Research Interests: Her studies address mechanisms of bone remodeling, osteoporosis, and genetic regulation of skeletal cells. Recent work explores how mitochondrial dynamics impact neuromuscular-skeletal interactions. She has authored/co-authored peer-reviewed articles on osteoclast biology, PTH signaling, and genetic models of bone disorders.
Publications: Her 2024 paper on Mitofusin 2 and 2015 study on Rac deletion in osteoclasts highlight her contributions to bone biology. Recent corrections/errata (2024–2025) refine prior studies on RANKL mRNA regulation.
Labs/Teams: Core member of the Insogna Lab, collaborating across disciplines in endocrinology and musculoskeletal research.
