Mehtap Arı

Mehtap Arı serves as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Music Education, University of the Arts Berlin, conducting interdisciplinary research on multilingualism-oriented frameworks in music education under Prof. Dr. Johann Honnens since May 2024. Her teaching critically engages with migration education, inclusion, diversity, intersectionality, and anti-racism praxis within music pedagogy.

Her academic foundation includes a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Music and German from the University of the Arts Berlin and Freie Universität Berlin (2019), followed by a teaching internship at a music-focused secondary school (2021).

Arı's research pioneers critical music pedagogy through multilingual classroom applications, examining how welcome classes (for newly arrived immigrants) can leverage music to bridge linguistic barriers. She investigates intersectional power dynamics in curricula, challenging Eurocentric traditions through frameworks from migration studies and critical race theory, with practical focus on decolonizing teaching materials and teacher training.

She actively shapes institutional discourse as a member of the Anti-Racism Music Education Working Group and Intersectionality Working Group, while expanding the university library's music education collection. Her scholarly engagement extends to the AMPF doctoral network, Cologne/Vienna Methods Colloquium (led by Prof. Niessen and Prof. Göllner), and Prof. Honnens' doctoral colloquium.
